The Nurse as a Summary Provider: Giving the Client a Voice

Track: Forum Session

Session Number: 51
Date: Fri, Apr 13th, 2018
Time: 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Room: Salon G

The nurse as a summary provider can be crucial in helping to bring a client’s story to life. A client may not remember or understand everything that happened to them, may be unable to communicate it, or are no longer alive to tell their story. Some clients may be unwilling to relive a terrible experience. A jury could decide against a client simply because they didn’t understand what the client went through. A nurse can provide a clear, unbiased description of complex diagnoses, diagnostic testing, treatment, symptoms, pain and suffering, and emotions a client had so that the jury has a much better understanding.

Learn how Federal Rule of Evidence (FRE) 1006 can provide a way for the nurse to act as a summary witness.
